Project summary:
Of those usually affected by COVID-19 on economic status, the vast majority of mango and dragon fruit farmers, collectors, packhouses/retailers experienced significant income losses during the crisis.
The majority of the mango survey farmers reported a decline in the selling prices (72% of respondents), selling quantities (67%), and revenue (72%). Most mango collectors experienced lower selling prices, selling quantity, and revenue mostly because of the COVID-19 crisis. The significant majority of mango packhouses/exporters experienced major difficulty in decreased selling prices and revenue during the pandemic crisis while nearly half of respondents reduced the selling fruit quantity. The great majority of mango retailers said the selling quantity and revenues decreased although 60% of them reported the selling price increased.
Although more than half of dragon fruit survey farmers reported the increase in selling quantity, the majority experienced a decrease in the market prices and revenue. Most survey collectors described their selling prices, selling quantities, and revenue decreased due to the COVID-19 crisis. Most interviewed packhouse/exporters experienced major difficulty in decreased selling prices and revenue the selling fruit quantity; however, the majority of respondents suffered significant challenges in decreased selling prices, fruit quality, and revenue.
